会の目的と概要/About Us

会の目的:市民を主体とした国際交流・協力を推進し,相互理解と友好関係を深めています。

会の概要:1996年、和光市の姉妹都市のひとつアメリカのワシントン州ロングビュー市〔当時は友好都市〕への市の募集による市民派遣団に23名が参加。その後23名に有志17名が加わり40名で1997年2月15日に発会。ロングビューからのAETの交流からはじまり、いまでは和光市とその周辺,また各国から来日した方々との輪を広げています。現在会員数は約100名

The outline of SWIE
People from Wako city made the first official visit to Long View City, the sister city of Wako in the United States in 1996.
On February 15,1997, a 40 person group, comprising of the original 23 delegation participants and 17 volunteers, held a meeting.
Now SWIE(Society of Wako International Exchange) partakes in activities with people from around the world, especially those visiting or living in Wako-city .
We provide Japanese classes and study groups and run training courses for Japanese instructors
In addition a student exchange program has been established, to welcome international home stay visitors and promote cultural exchange.
Other SWIE activities include participating in local international fairs and forums.
There is also Hiroba (Chatter box) and many other activities.
